Meet the volunteers

Make the World a Better Place by Volunteering

Do you want to do something that is satisfying and of great service?

Then volunteer at Midnight’s Equine Rescue and Sanctuary (MERAS) to help improve the plight of horses rescued from the grips of kill buyers who would send to slaughter!

We are always looking for people to help care for the rescued horses and the two barn cats as well as perform administrative and development tasks. While volunteering with Midnight’s is great experience for people interested in a career animal health and welfare, everyone – regardless of his or her skill

level – can contribute and learn at MERAS. No experience necessary. The only qualification required is the desire to help. Young people ages 13 years of age and up are welcomed, as are senior citizens and everyone in between. Middle and high school students needing community involvement credits are also welcomed. Training is ongoing. Here are just a few of the tasks for which volunteers are needed:

  • Can you wield scissors safely ? Help clip coupons from feedbags;
  • H2O specialist? Help keep the water troughs cleaned and filled;
  • Broom wizard?  Help us battle the cobwebs in the barn;
  • Culinary expert?  Help scoop feed into individual food buckets and deliver to the horses;
  • Handy with a hammer?  Help keep our fences shipshape;
  • Interested in turf management?  Join in our battle against the weeds and help us establish grass in the fields where the horses graze;
  • Horse Trainer? At Midnight’s, we use an intuitive horsemanship approach to training;
  • Socializer/Feeder of carrots?;
  • Public relations/event planner?;
  • Program Development?;
  • Fundraiser?
